A couple things to remember as we enter the commemorative speaking unit. First, produce a full manuscript of the speech with your 4-5 stylistic devices clearly marked (i.e. “simile,” “metaphor,” or “alliteration” in parentheses after usage). Then, remember that we still want you to give the audience a clear thesis statement and preview of the 2-3 virtues that your topic embodies. Like all speeches, papers, and cohesive thoughts, this speech should contain a solid structure and organization–develop an identifiable introduction, body, and conclusion. Strive for vivid language and creativity! Have fun with it, and speak from the heart–*use the manuscript responsibly*. (Also, please plan ahead to provide me with a hard copy of your manuscript to follow along with as you speak).

Then, remember that the final reflection paper will be 2-3 pages double-spaced (12 point font, Times New Roman). Just give me a simple heading with your name and section number (SPCM 200-060). Our goal in this assignment is essentially a SWOT analysis (e.g. identifying your strengths, weaknesses, opportunity for improvement, and threats upon your overall effectiveness as a public speaker). Also, if you have multiple recordings, I would encourage you to comment on how you may have improved over the time span of this class. I hope you find the assignment insightful and worthwhile–I know it is something that has helped me in the past.
