Program Planning
Paper instructions:
For the project, you will apply steps 7 and 8 in program planning.
Using the professional literature and/or organizational websites, locate and identify a description of a health promotion program.
Review the program based on the criteria outlined in step seven of the text. Which components of this program would you utilize in a program you are developing? Explain why you would or would not use this program to generate strategies for your program. (Is the program you identified, science or evidence based? How do you know?)
Then, generate a list of possible budget items, and identify ways to cover some of the necessary expenses. Consider grants from public and private foundations (refer to Web resources). Review the requirements by at least two funding sources. Identify the key constituents in two of the funding sources.
Complete this assignment as a Word document. The paper should be approximately two pages in length, double-spaced using 12-point Times New Roman font, using references to support your response.
PROJECT HINTS:
1. In the project, you are instructed to refer to steps 7 and 8 in chapter 4 of the text. Step 7 discusses reviewing other programs to generate program strategy alternatives – see pages 73-74 and be sure to refer specifically to this information in your assignment. Step 8 reviews budgeting.
2. In the project instructions, you are directed to locate a health promotion program in the professional literature. The phrase “professional literature” is your clue to use peer-reviewed articles from the library to identify a sample program. I also recommend that you begin your search with a specific health intervention in mind, depending on your professional interests. Also, please be sure that you choose a health program and not a health organization. Try to avoid choosing a research study. I will post a sample article in doc sharing that you can use for this project, if you wish. Please check in with me if you have questions about this project.
3. Make sure that you identify actual potential funding sources – at least one public and one private – for the project. Look for “grant opportunities.” Here are some suggestions to get your search for sources of funding started:
· Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Grants
· NY State guide to finding funding for health promotion: NY Department of Health
· Minnesota Department of Health listing of private foundations that offer health program funds: Minnesota List of Private Foundations
