primarily psychoeducational

primarily psychoeducational
This week you have read a chapter, or part thereof, about the role of family in psychiatric rehabilitation. Pratt et al. (2007, p. 400) state:

“It is clear that family interventions that are primarily psychoeducational have been found to be very effective, especially if started when the ill relative is in the acute phase of his or her illness.”

In this exercise the task is to generate the variety of possible reasons that family psychoeducation can lead to a reduction in both the number and frequency of relapses. For example: How do knowledge and skills translate into a lower likelihood of relapse? Remember, this effect can take place in both high EE and low EE families.

Also, consider the following questions about what these interventions actually accomplish for the family. Do they help families to;
(1) be better observers,
(2) intervene sooner when relapse is coming, or
(3) be better symptom management agents?

From the information provided in this week’s e-learning materials provide ONE possible reason why psychoeducational family interventions have positive effects for a person with mental illness. Provide the rationale for the reason you present.
