1. According to you, what are the strengths and weaknesses of Descartes’ view of human nature?

2. According to materialism (i.e. physicalism, i.e. psychophysical reductionism) we are nothing but a material organism. The mind can be reduced to the brain and, if we knew everything there is to know about the physics, chemistry and biology of our body, there would be nothing left to be known about us. Describe and compare the ways in which Descartes and Nagel criticize this doctrine. Which approach, if any, is more successful in criticizing materialism?
