Philosophical Aspects of Feminism

This particular collection of readings and the layout of the reader itself were purposefully crafted by the editors to explore and articulate five theoretical core principles. These five core theoretical principles are “gender, difference, women’s experiences, the personal is political, and intersectionality” (Mccann and Kim 2013, v).

Pick two of these five theoretical concepts and pick two corresponding readings from the reader (whether they were assigned for class or not) that you feel to be operating within the framework of each of these (two) theoretical concepts. For each concept and corresponding reading answer the following questions/prompts:
1. Define the theoretical concept. What is it? Why is it useful/meaningful/important?
2. Explain how the reading you chose explains, comments, critiques, relates to (or all of the above) the theoretical concept just defined.
3. What kinds of questions does the author ask that are guided by an engagement with the theoretical concept? Does the author offer persuasive or full answers to these questions or concerns?
FINALLY,
1. Compare and contrast the different readings: how do they offer different approaches/methods? What things might they or do they agree about? Disagree about?
2. Pontificate on how the questions or answers each author gives might be different had they been more primarily concerned with the OTHER theoretical concept. In other words assess how each reading might be different if the theoretical concept used to assess them originally were swapped. Example: How might a reading primarily focused on “gender” differ if its guiding orientation was swapped for “difference?”
