Situation:

One study found that “a high self-awareness score was the strongest predictor of
overall success ofa leader” (Green Peak Partners Organizational Consulting, 2009, p.
4) Throughout this course, you have become more self-aware as a leader and
learned characteristics about yourself that make you unique as a leader. Now, you
get to synthesize the information learned and apply it through this assignment.
Identifying with someone who is like you can help you gain awareness of how you
interact with others and the type of leader you represent.

Assignment:

For this assignment, you will need to think of a leader in the media that is similar to
you. The leader just needs to be someone you could find information about in the
media (Internet, book, articles, television, etc.). You are going to describe how you
and this leader are similar in characteristics and topics discussed in ALED 301.
Write a reflection describing how you and the leader share similar characteristics.
You should also include a brief overview of the leader along with the sources you
used for this information. The overview should include enough information for the
reader to get a general idea of who this person is and what makes you believe you
have characteristics in common with this person.

You are not going to be able to clearly identify traits and characteristics of the leader
in the media. For instance, you are probably not going to find an article listing the
person’s strengths or their values or emotional intelligence or way they balance
their life. You are going to need to use the information you locate about the person
and make conclusions about these characteristics. The key is to form these
conclusions based on the facts and information about the person. You may be
different than the leader in some ways. It is okay to point out these things; you and
the leader do not have to be exactly identical.

Specifics about the assignment:

At least 4 pages, double-spaced, 12 pt. Times New Roman font, 1 inch margins
Include biography and/or overview ofthe leader (no more than 1 page ofthe paper)
Discuss similarities between you and the leader in regard to at least 3
topics/characteristics from ALED 301. You must discuss specific concepts from
ALED 301 (see course topic list) and describe topics using the specific
terminology provided in ALED 301; do not discuss characteristics in general
terms. Include citations within the paper as well as a reference list at the end of the
paper. Finally, reflect on how this person is viewed and whether or not you believe
you are viewed in the same way. Do you want to be viewed the same way as this
person? What did you learn about yourself from this assignment?
