ON THE ORIGINS OF VIOLENCE

ON THE ORIGINS OF VIOLENCE

Case Assignment
The literature has identified many origins of violence.
Your task is to write a 2-page paper discussing the origins of violence in the following case scenario.
A much publicized case is that of the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. Search for articles and newscasts about the story.
There are three main tasks for this assignment:
1.    First, compare and contrast one biological explanation of why this event occurred. Then, provide one alternative sociological (i.e. social) explanation of why

the event occurred.
2.    State your position on which explanation is more reasonable in this scenario.
3.    Describe one effective strategy to reduce this type of violence.
Assignment Expectations
Please make sure that all assignment questions are specifically answered, that your answers are clear and your paper is well organized. It is important that you

analyze the information you find in various resources, cover relevant areas, formulate conclusions, and provide enough depth, while paying attention to grammar,

spelling and punctuation.
Your paper will be graded on the following factors:
•    Length – 2 pages
•    Original work – the paper is your own work, not copied or paraphrased from any other sources.
•    Credible professional sources are used (for example, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, academic institutions, scholarly journals). Wikipedia is not

•    Breadth – show broad knowledge of the module’s topic.
•    Depth – go into detail to show more critical thought about the specific assignment.
•    Clarity – the extent to which you elaborate and include discussion or examples as asked.
•    Critical thinking (especially for Case assignments) – thinking that goes beyond simple description, repetition, or quotation, and comes to a relevant

conclusion.
•    Application (for SLP assignments) – the extent to which you apply the information to a real-life situation related to the assignment.
•    Avoid using the first person except when describing a relevant personal experience.
