Paper instructions:
Pick ONE from these three topics:
1. The New York City skyline or an interesting scene in NYC or your town
2. A festival, a celebration, a happy occasion, like a wedding, graduation etc.
3. A dream home.
Then prepare the outline, which you will follow in writing the essay.

Be sure the outline and the essay match. As you revise your description, put yourself in the place

of the reader and try to determine if it gives the general impression you set out to convey. Then

check to see if you followed the points discussed earlier, especially the metaphor. I would suggest

that you include at least THREE main ideas in your outline because you’ll write a five-paragraph

essay. Then you can have the introduction and finally the conclusion. As you move in the

description follow order of place. Use expressions like: to your right is… next to it is… behind

are… this will indicate order of place.

Remember to use a simile or a metaphor. Compare two images, or objects that do not belong to

the same class or category, but they must have a common quality. Like comparing New York City

to a big, red apple.
