“CHI SQUARE (goodness of fit)” is the graphic organizer you have to demonstrate. Follow the directions below. It should be one page
Scholars in Education and Psychology have come to understand that students learn more and retain information longer when they go through the process of organizing their own understanding of course material versus simply being hand-fed the material by the instructor. For example, sometimes students can take abstract or complex constructs and explain them in a way that makes the idea more accessible and concrete for themselves as well as others. This graphic organizer activity makes use of this research, asking students to review the week’s content (via readings and class discussions) and devise an organizational device that summarizes the information, in addition to highlighting key concepts, elucidating relationships between concepts and clarifying terms.
Thus each student will choose one week to create a graphic organizer, summarizing and organizing the content. The final graphic organizer should be one page (electronic and paper). Careful creative consideration and thought should go into this activity, detailing the main components of the content covered in that week’s readings and/or class discussions. The final product should not be a regurgitation of the class or reading material for that week but should evidence a personal internalization and conceptualization in how the details are summarized, organized or presented.
Grading Rubric: 10 points
1) Student Effectively Summarized. In the variety of details that were presented via the reading and/or class discussions, the student was able to parse the essential concepts from the peripheral ones, presenting a framework for understanding these concepts.
3 pts.
2) Organization & Clarity. The final product is very clear. It makes seemingly complex terms and concepts appear intuitive. The final product is well organized and could be followed by the average lay person who knows nothing about these concepts. (Hint: You may want to check for this with family members or friends)
4 pts.
3) Evidence of Creative Internalization. This assignment is not a regurgitation of your textbook in a one page format. Final product should demonstrate that the student has found a way to make the information his/her own. This may include personal/novel definitions, illustrations, diagrams, connections, etc. Think creatively as well as deeply.
