Management Civility Project
Project description
Civility Project
REVIEW Dr. Forni’s 40+ notions of civility in the “What Is Civility?” chapter, READ the book altogether to be clear what those notions mean to Dr. Forni and to civilized Western cultures.
OBSERVE students in class, on campus, people in general. Based on your observations, select at least 10 of Dr. Forni’s notions of civility, and in at least a 100 words each, discuss how that particular notion has been violated, or followed at an exemplary level. Record instances of good/ill conduct or behavior (without names), and suggest further use or remedies to the situation. You may paraphrase Dr. Forni’s words, but you may not use direct quotes.
Example:
MANNERS: A lot of students across campus walk around with their heads in their phones. They don’t mind where they are going, they don’t say hi to people when they enter a class, do not hold the door open to others. They keep talking over one another and are generally disrespectful to each other, to teaching assistants, staff, and often the instructors. Students need to remember to be considerate, courteous and polite. Dr. Forni notes that courtesy is a form of elegance and is a sign of respect to others. In our wired society we need to remember to cherish human interactions and abide by spoken and unspoken rules of conduct. Behaving in a polite and courteous manner will reflect positively on us and our organization as well.
