Assignment

Management and Organisations

Task 1 – 30 Marks
Provide evidence of a working knowledge of managerial structure, culture and systems in an organisation known to the student. Note: If students download information about an organisation to assist with this section, (e.g. an organisation’s website) they MUST fully reference such material using the recognised Harvard system to avoid plagiarism.

Task 2 – 30 Marks
Critically evaluate a successful managerial leader. This may be from an organisation known to the student or from any other appropriate walk of life.

Task 3 – 40Marks
Create a reflective statement which explores, in depth, the student’s own thoughts on what he/she has learned so far during this module. Try to relate it to personal experiences which may have been gained while working for an organisation or through family and friends’ work and link these experiences to some of the models encountered on the module so far. Marks will be given for references to relevant academic literature relating to the module. An appropriate (and strongly recommended) format for this third section would be the following sub-headings:a) What happened? – i.e. What new knowledge did I encounter and in what circumstances? b) How did I react? – Did I welcome or reject this knowledge and was I able to understand it fairly easily? c) How have I thought about it since then? – Has it become a useful aspect of my life as a student and has it helped me to understand more about the management of organisations, including those with which I have contact? d) What will I do with this new knowledge? – How will I apply the lessons of this learning in both academic and practical terms? In practice, the middle two sub-headings (b and c) are the most important. It is essential that students refer to the published literature on the chosen topics and also to the module materials that have been encountered so far. Elements 1, 2 and 3, should all be supported by appropriate references to the literature you have read. Please refer to the Course Handbook for the skills we expect you to demonstrate in this assignment: analysis, critical thinking, synthesis, evaluation and creativity. The Handbook also shows how the level of marking relates to your standard of work.
