Topic: Key Process Flow

Order Description

This flow chart will become a component of your QI/Patient Safety Project Plan major assignment later in the semester. Make sure that the process you select for this

assignment aligns with the topic or opportunity for improvement you select for the project.
The requirements for this assignment include the following:
1.Identify the key process in your clinical microsystem that will be the focus of your QI/Patient Safety Project Plan assignment later in the semester.
2. 2. Flow-chart the process in as much detail as necessary to identify and demonstrate the opportunity/need for improvement of one or more specific sub-steps in the

process. Be sure to use/apply relevant flow chart shapes correctly.
3.Evaluate/analyze and summarize the results (i.e., what you learned about the process)so you can read later on in the audio presentation.
4.4.Include:
•The name or a description of the process you have flow charted (e.g., patient cycle time for primary care patients)
•How the process impacts the quality or safety of patient care within your clinical microsystem
•Your overall impression of the efficiency or effectiveness of the process as it currently exists
•Identified areas of opportunity (or “glitches”) for process improvement (e.g., frequent wait periods, backtracking, redundant steps, delays, bottlenecks, etc.)
•Factors contributing to inefficiencies within the process
•How the results of your flow chart analysis might inform the strategies/improvements you will propose in your QI/Patient Safety Project Plan

The following elements should be included in your presentation

I.Brief introduction, introducing the topic and purpose of the flowchart

II.Main discussion (this section will cover the content outlined in the “bullets” above)

III.Summary recapping key insights/points
