Interpersonal Communication
Paper instructions:
Sometimes human behavior is confusing and often times, we’re left with questions we don’t think we can answer; however, that may not be entirely true. Theories and
concepts you have learned in this class or in other communication classes often provide us with some answers to questions we may have. For this paper, I want you to
try to answer one of those questions.
The paper will then have three components. First, you need to clearly indicate what your question is; however, you are not welcome to start your paper with “why do
. . .” or “how can I . . .” This is an upper level course you should be capable of introducing a topic without stating an explicit question. Second, you need to
explain why you think answering this question is important or relevant Third, you need to cite at least FIVE peer-reviewed journal articles (e.g. Journal of
Communication, Journal of Health Communication, Media Psychology) and analyze or critique the information offered by these sources. Additionally, you must include one
source from popular media. The popular media source can be a magazine, television show, or opinion/advice column online. After selecting your sources, have you found
any similarities or differences? Which of the sources do you believe is more accurate and which offers advice that is easier to apply in interpersonal relationships?
Direct quotes are not acceptable. You must paraphrase the information you find in your sources.
