How does Australia’s Renewable Energy Target compare with what other G20 countries are doing?

Task: Analyse an environmental policy case study of an issue of your choice (approved by the course leader)

Purpose: To develop your research and analytical capabilities and to increase the depth of your understanding of environmental politics and policy.

Structure:
•Introduction which includes a brief overview of the issue and what you are arguing in the paper
•Background: What is the problem the policy is meant to be addressing? What are the key events that led to consideration of the policy? What is the nature of the environmental policy instrument (its physical or technical aspects)? This section of the assignment should be relatively brief (10-15% of the words).
•The body will focus on the politics and the policy aspects of the case study. This can be in several sub-sections and you are free to choose appropriate sub-headings. Explain the politics of the issue, with reference to the various beliefs or dominant discourses and political activities of the various key people or groups involved in the issue.
•Conclusion. Summary of the events and arguments (brief); your conclusions about what this case study tells us about environmental politics and/or policy; and what are the implications for the future for this particular issue and perhaps for related areas of environmental politics and policy.
