(why it was written); assess the nature of the evidence the author uses to make his or her argument; and make conclusions about the overall worth of the text–why is

it historically important? You should make sure that you have a clear organization in your essay, and you must be analytical as opposed to narrative in your

discussion—in other words, spend more time discussing the merits of the text rather than the content of the text. Also, it is best to review non-fiction rather than

fiction because it is more straightforward to assess critically the approach, sources, etc. of a non-fiction title.
