From Exclusion to Inclusion
You have again encountered examples of power, privilege, and differences from your readings in Carolyn Jame’s book Half the Church. The goal o this assignment is to integrate the concepts with a concrete biblical case.
Tasks:
Biblical Refliction: Spend twenty minutes reading Acts 6, a story in which Hellenist widows were being overlooked from the daily food distribution. Spend thirty minutes observing and reflecting on the timing of the issue raised, who voiced it, and how the Apostles handed the confrontation.Considering that one of the definitions of privilege is oblivion, examine the Apostles’ responses. Raise questions regarding the strategy they came up with and how it may or may not fall short of a full inclusion. For supplementary resource, see Young Lee Hertig’s chapter “Cross-Cultural Mediation: From Exclusion to Inclusion “found in Mission in Acts: Acient Narratives in Contemporary Context, edited by Robert L.
