Introduction
Crime analysis is not just a bunch of guesswork, habit, and instinct; it is rooted firmly in theories and models of both criminology and policing, and it has evolved over the years to take advantage of new theories and findings. In many ways, crime analysis merges what we know about why crime happens and what we know about what police can do about it into a single operational model. In this assignment, you will analyze the theoretical underpinnings of one of the types of crime analysis.

Activity Instructions
Choose one of the various types of crime analysis or law enforcement analysis offered by Bruce (“Fundamentals of Crime Analysis”) or Santos (Crime Analysis with Crime Mapping). Describe the type of crime analysis in your own words and provide at least one specific example of how it might be used. Then, discuss which theories of both criminology and police science inform and use that type of analysis. Analyze the ties between the type of analysis and the various policing models and criminology models that you have studied. (Not all criminology or policing models will apply to all types of crime analysis, so be selective.)

For each type of crime analysis, there is at least one obvious criminology theory and one obvious policing model. I’m looking for these, but also a deeper analysis of how the other models contribute.
