In this course, students will learn about how a particular Latin American or Caribbean culture serves as an adaptation to its peoples’ specific social, political, and

historical circumstances. Through class discussions and activities, students will analyze the role of these institutions in several Latin American and Caribbean

societies.

ASSIGNMENT
•   Discuss the role of syncretism and religious conversion in the film The Other Conquest.
•   Describe howthe devotion to the Virgen de Guadalupe has maintained indigenous religious traditions in Latin America through religious syncretism.
•   Make reference to the course readings, the film The Other Conquest, and research outside of the course readings.
