Ethics

Part I:
Read the first two articles, both of which discuss the
same topic: the fact that many (perhaps dozens) of donor
children are being conceived using sperm from the same
sperm donor. As you read these two articles, consider
the following questions:
-Were you surprised by the scenario described in these
articles? Why or why not?
-Should there be a limit on the number of children who
can be conceived using sperm from the same donor?
Why or why not?
-Should donors be allowed to retain anonymity? Why or
why not? What types of potentially useful information
remains offlimits to the donor children as a result of
donor anonymity?

Part II:
Read the third article, which discusses a recent lawsuit
against a sperm bank that accidently used sperm from a
donor of a different racial background than the donor
that the recipient actually had selected. As you read this
article, consider the following questions:
-Should Jennifer Cramblett receive any of the
compensation that she is demanding from the Midwest
Sperm Bank? Why or why not?
-Should donor race be a characteristic about which
sperm recipients can ask? Should donor race be a
characteristic about which sperm recipients should ask?
Why or why not?
