Research Project
The research project requires a specific topic that can be related to the overall goals of the course in Belief in Reason. The topic must be able to be related to at least one of the Readings from the Dialogues textbook. For example, sometimes it pays to wonder if some of these old readings are still influential today and who they might be influencing. When I did a google video search for “Matthew the Beatitudes” I found a link/video entitled “The Beatitudes-Matthew V.” The video thumbnail had a cool red background color and I wondered if it was actually a music video! When I clicked on the video it was actually a typical Christian video clip, but then I noticed at the bottom of the related videos a video entitled “Emmet Fox-Sermon on the Mount.” I recognized the name of Emmet Fox from readings I’d done about turn of the century (20th century!) new age philosophers so I thought-Bingo! Here is an interesting new take on the Beatitudes from an original American thinker. This would make an interesting research project! I think the topic would be an answer to a research question-how could the Beatitudes of Matthew V be used in a more modern or non-traditional (non-church) way? Or how can the Beatitudes be understood outside the typical Christian tradition?
I hope that you notice from this example three main goals that I am looking for:
1-specific and concrete connection to course reading(s)
2-new or original way of looking at the idea of the readings from the use of images/videos/music
3-clear topic or question of research
Note: Of course you are free to pick anything you like-from science fiction-say the character of Data on Star Trek and his over reliance upon reason as a critique of science. I think it would be harder to relate sports to Belief or Reason-but maybe some crazy connection could be made to one of the wild come from behind (last to first) underdog performances and the challenges to reason they represent. Remember the genre of your example!!! Sports is a genre too!

Additional requirements:
The essay should be approximately 8-10 pages in length including imagery/videos embedded in the document space. You can use the wiki space for your project. Please use a separate page for the research project. Here is a link from a website that contains an essay that looks like something I’d like to receive from you http://viz.cwrl.utexas.edu/content/lego-movie-narrative-and-childrens-play

Annotated Bibliography-At least six citations-one must be from the Dialogues textbook!
Please see the following site https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/614/03/ for examples how to do your annotated bibliography. There should be an entry for each of the sources that informs and is referenced in your research project. For example in the example link I gave you above entitled “The LEGO Movie,” towards the ends of the essay at the bottom in the last four paragraphs there are at least four links highlighted in the text. These are external sources/references that the essay uses. For our project, I expect you to cite each of the sources, even the ones that you link to-it’s a very hip way to write and makes your citation work really easy!
Additional instructions:
1-The annotated bibliography will probably be at least two pages, maybe three in length. Each entry should have at least two paragraphs, the first containing the brief summary of the source and the second detailing how the source is used within your essay. That is, is the source used as an example of some evidence that supports some claim or argument you are making? Or does the source expand or extend an idea that you are discussing? Or does the source refute or contradict the point you are making? Or is the source a vital piece of evidence you are using to support your argument?
2-Images/videos should be cited but you do not have to write an annotation for them.
