Paper #4 Literary Research Papers. 10-14 pages
English 203-514
Pick at least one of the critical strategies for analyzing literature at the back of the book (1552-1592 DiYanni)—everyone is also required to do some biographical and historical research as part of this assignment (offer at least one biographical and historical citation as part of this project). At least two of your sources must be peer-reviewed scholarly Ulrichs-verified (print out the Ulrichs proof) journal articles. You must have at least 10 works cited from written sources. You should devise your own thesis statement, but be sure to engage with the topics outlined below.
#1 Your task is to research and analyze some of the cultural and literary influences on William Gibson’s Neuromancer, as well as how it relates to so-called cyberpunk and other literary and cinematic visions of the future.
#2 Your task is to explore more of the science fiction genre—including critical studies—and apply your studies to Neuromancer. How is the genre defined? And how is Neuromancer an example of science fiction? How does the novel differ from or reflect expectations about the science fiction genre? Your analysis will probably integrate the subgenre of cyberpunk as well.
#3 Your tasks is to clarify what is the cultural impact of Neuromancer? Investigate films, comic books, books, and aspects of technology that have derived from Gibson’s vision of the future. Why has the book had this influence, and where has the book not been influential?
#4 Applying what you’ve learned of heroes and villains, who are the heroes and villains in Neuromancer? Your task is to analyze different cultural perspective on heroism and villainy in this novel.
