drawing on at least three of these authors/concepts in critical management thinking
In this course, we have read two authors who championed what continue to be thought of as universal goods across much of the globe today (Kant with ‘transparency’, Marx with ‘growth’). However, we have also now read an author (Sandel) who deeply criticizes another prevalent institution of our time prescribed as such a universal solution, namely, ‘markets’ and we are reading another, Arendt, who does the same with the idea of ‘human rights’. Finally, we’ve read a thinker (Beck) who clearly challenges the notion that decision-making means ‘risk management’, and we will conclude the class by reading another (Koselleck) who argues that true decision-making cannot mean ‘crisis management’. In your essay, drawing on at least three of these authors/concepts, make an argument as to how the readings and concepts you have chosen should be fundamentally related to one another. For example, you could write about ‘transparency, human rights and crisis’ or ‘growth, markets and risk’…the specific combination is up to you. In your essay, try to think through the perspectives of your three authors to decide how each might have made the link between concepts you have chosen. Finally, tell me your own understanding of the links between your chosen concepts, whether in agreement or disagreement with our authors. Feel free to disagree with them all! Has your point of view shifted as a result of our readings and discussions? Wherever you end up, make sure you do it by arguing with or against our authors.
