Do you want to go to a juvenile prison?

Do you want to go to a juvenile prison?

Paper instructions:
“This is a threat in the second degree. Do you want to go to a juvenile prison?” There I was, sitting in a conference room with my parents, her parents, the police, and the administration. I was in this position because on Facebook I had typed to a girl “I will slit your throat”. My intentions were malicious with a purpose to keep a girl silenced. I was a bold and empowered coward sitting in my room behind a computer. The events leading up to that moment are not important and almost irrelevant. What I said though created a ripple effect that hurt and effected many people around me. Teachers and other adults had always told us that our words could hurt and that we could never take them back. It was said over and over again that it felt like a cliché. It lost almost all meaning. When I typed those words, I felt casual. I did not feel like a jerk. It just felt as if I was typing, “Hi, what’s up?”. That day I was forced to grow up. I was being faced with adult concepts and I was still only an immature punk. I can never forget the way I made that girl feel. The way she was scared that I would actually hurt her and the way she cried from across the table. We had been friends and what I said fractured the friendship into thousands of little pieces. I had been a monster that day. Four years later, I never want to make anyone feel that way again. No one should ever feel scared especially by another human being. It is sick to think that no other species bullies each other to the point where they want to kill themselves. Only the human race does that to its brothers and sisters. Social media can be used for so much good. I want to turn my mistake into something more beautiful. I decided to make a documentary about the homeless. The thinking behind it was that I could use social media and film to educate people about the ills of society surrounding homelessness. We make mistakes, we all do. But what matters is how we turn that mistake into something beautiful and meaningful.
