Choose 1 of the following case studies below to respond. Cite specific references and examples from your text or other credible sources to support your thoughts and opinions:
Case Study A (see ch. 1 in Borich text for complete case study)
Discuss some positive and some negative aspects of Mrs. Travis’s strategy for dealing with Brady’s off-task behavior during the warm-up and the follow-up discussion. In your discussion, comment on Mrs. Travis’s response to Brady’s reading a novel during class as well as her reaction to Brady’s negative comments about a fellow classmate.
Case Study B (see ch. 2 in Borich text for complete case study)
Given what we know about Anna’s behavior at home, it seems that she would be an ideal candidate for cooperative learning. Why was this activity, as instituted by Mrs. Dodge, not particularly successful with either Anna or the rest of the class? Using your knowledge of research on teaching practices, explain how Mrs. Dodge could adapt the cooperative learning activity to be more successful.
Case Study C (see ch. 3 in Borich text for complete case study)
Some critics might contend that Mr. Goldthorp’s unit on leaf collection and identification was too time-consuming. These same skills could just as easily be taught in much less time by “telling” students about the topic and having them consult reference texts. Using your knowledge of research and curriculum standards, give at least 3 reasons to justify the longer unit.
