Individual Briefing ReportFormat (Phase 2 of the CSR-Sustainability Project)

Description of Assignment:Each student will select a key element of the background materials needed to develop the CSR-Sustainability

Project. Topics to be researched include: 1) global industry issues; 2) domestic industry issues; 3) company background and history of

the CSR-Sustainability Program; 4) company risk analysis and reporting standards; 5) competitive and customer analyses; and, 6) company

governance and ethics issues.
Industries to be considered:Assigned teams will select publically listed/NGO in one of the following industries: 1) pharmaceuticals, 2)

management consulting, 3) consumer products, or 4) energy. Within each industry, the team will select a company and individual team

members will conduct research on the issues noted above. The briefing reports will help the teams analyze the industry and company and

present their findings on the major industry and company related CSR-Sustainability issues.

Teams:
Pharmaceutical companies: Teams 1, 5 and 9
Management consulting: Teams 2, 6 and 10
Consumer Products: Teams 3, 7 and 11
Energy Industry: Teams 4, 8 and 12
Grading Criteria (What constitutes a good assignment?): The assignment will be based on the analysis of the research and effective

communication of the impact of this information on the formation of the team’s CSR-Sustainability project. Apply the external research

sources and online databases and effectively use the APA format to reference all citations. See rubric in myCourses for grading

criteria.

Format: (3-5 pages, single-spaced)
I. Title Paper: (include team, company name, your name and topic of the briefing report- not included in page count)
II. Table of Contents (not included in page count)
III. Briefing Report: each team member will select one of the following topics:
1. Global Industry: brief summary of the industry sector in which the company operates
and specific environmental and social issues and challenges that could impact
the company’s strategic planning and CSR BalancedScorecard. (e.g. market size, growth
trends, macro-environmental factors and risksregulations, marketing and supply chain, etc.)
2. Domestic industry: brief summary of the domestic (the country the company is located
and discuss specific environmental and social issues and challenges that could impact the
company’s strategic planning and CSR Balanced Scorecard. (e.g. market size,
growth trends, macro-environmental factors and risks, regulation, marketing and supply
chain, etc.
3. Company background and History of its CSR-Sustainability Program: Profile: mission and
company background; what triggered the company to adopt its CSR-Sustainability Program;
the financial, marketing and operational implications of the Initiative, targeted Program
outcomes and gap analysis.
4.Company Risk Analysis and Reporting Standards(e.g. PESTELE, corruption, ownership
control, safety and security concerns, and other matters noted in the 10-K Management
Report.Does it use GRI, CSP and other reporting frameworks? Does it publish a CSR Annual
Report?
5.Competitive and Customer analysis: Major direct and indirect competitors, customer
segments, and CSR-Sustainability issues related to a company’s competitive advantage and
financial stability, etc.)
6. Company governance and ethics issues: Company management and where CSR-Sustainability
Program is in the corporate hierarchy. How does the company report its CSR-Sustainability
Program to its stakeholders?Is it signed on to the UN Global Compact? What ethical
issues has the company had to deal with?

Note:Research the topic using Hult’s online data resources, the company’s website, the country’s governmentwebsite, and theindustry,

market and governmental reports (e.g. company’s 10-K report, IBIS reports, GMID, GRI, CDP and UN Global Compact). This information will

be used to educate the team about the company’s position in the marketplace, the Program and the competitive environment, and why the

company’s management should consider the recommendation.

IV. Recommendations: Taking into account your research, what are the major recommendations that you suggest forimproving the

Company CSR-Sustainability Program. Describe your recommendations and implementation strategy. These will be incorporated in your

team’s project.

V. References: use the APA citation format and include in-text citations in the report.
