INSTRUCTOR’S RESPONSE

Awesome, MICKY..

Haiku is three lines– you went nuts and wrote so many more…. I wonder if you could render each of those three long poems down to its absolute essential in three lines? Give it a try.

Kerplopping Frogs

My version of Frog Haiku.

A frog jumps into an old and still pond
Kerplunk ! A noise is heard.

Other poems like Using Frog Haiku Style.

1. Commuting Poem.

My trip to work

The morning sounds wake me up
Cuckoo the alarm rings
Birds are singing
The phones is buzzing
Eggs are frying
The baby is crying
Water runs fast and makes a splash
I am late and make a dash
Sigh!
From the broken pipe
Waterdrops drip
spilt spalt spolt !
shiver ,whoosh! a windblast
I infuse the unburnt diesel from the bus .
As they splash in the urban wave
The tires roll in a pool of still water
A dark reflective grime
Dead, devoid of life
An old man stands
with his back to the breeze
frozen in that moment
as the bus speeds down hill
The engine roars Vroom !
My neighbor looks out the window
lost in thought
I open up my newspaper
but understand what it says not
Morning ? I say to her
The bust comes to a halt
I look around
confused by the vicinity.
I am past my stop
heartbeat skips a beat
her beautiful smile makes it all better.

2. Food Preparation Poem

Italian food.

Italian food,
my love for it unending
I savor it each time
for the taste not
but for the way it rhymes
Cannelloni , rigatoni misterone ,
macaroni,scallopmi , braciole
instalata , escaroleca ,borana,
Marinara, Bolognese , fracases
Rollatini ,green linguine
Tetrazzini ,mozerella
Oh I think I split my fettuccine
With Latino music in the background
I heat up the cheese in a pan
Pour in the macaroni
easy to forget the milk
without it , pasta is lifeless.
A sea without water
a man with no soul
I inhale the sweet aroma
As I warm the oven
bake the spicy mac and cheese
tick tock! tick tock! the timer goes
ping ! the oven alarm
Serve with pesto sauce
Serve with white wine.

3. Courage

Shadows grow as the evening grows
Sun starts to set
Careful so you don’t know,
something called regret
harmful as it is
Not what you do,
nor what you try to,
throughout a youth that is carefree
What you don’t,
when time shows truth,
you will come to rue.
Alas!
Wisdom can be learnt from acts and words
Gradually we learn
failure is not negative
indeed, it adds strength
Fear, fearing rejection,
fearing fear, paralyses youth
They are the tears stuff that makes dreams not come true.

It takes strength to care
It takes courage to be strong
Being certain takes courage
Being uncertain demands courage
how unpredictable life is
only the courageous can fight for another
To fit in you need to have courage
To stand out you have to be courage
In order to conquer you need to have courage
To surrender, you need courage
To succeed you need courage
Nature serves us that dare
Bravery isn’t cultivated from seed
Take these words kindly and hold them dear
Certainly you will realize
A single courage from the heart
Results in success.
Soon courageous people
wake to realize
they are the person they dreamed of
Doing what you wanted
Because of courage
Believe in your own potential
Hold on to your dream
Be courageous .
Thank you Dr. Brian, for encouraging me
When I do right, and correcting me
When I do less, you have made me
A courageous person and writer.
