1.After reviewing all of the information in the Module 1 Reading & Study folder, list some components that the video, the texts, and the presentation had in common. What do you think the teacher’s role should be when dealing with students with learning disabilities? Use your own experiences as a teacher to share your reflections about the video, texts, or notes. Also, explain what the Christian’s role should be when reaching out to students with disabilities in the classroom. Some Biblical references to guide your thoughts are – Luke 14:12-14 & Luke 9:48
2.RTI (Response to Intervention) is a highlighted initiative in IDEA 2004. After reviewing the materials in this week’s Reading & Study folder, how do you feel this initiative will effect identification and eligibility of students with learning disabilities? Did you agree with the sample case studies in the article that highlights RTI? Why or why not? What other assessment data is considered when finding a student eligible to receive special education services under the label of learning disabled? Please feel free to share your personal knowledge and experiences.
3.Topic: After reviewing the Reading & Study materials in Module/Week 3, what ideas do you have for using differentiated instruction in your current or future classroom? Did this give you any ideas for your Unit Plan? If so, please share some of your ideas with the class. Do you think there are biblical concepts that reinforce the ideology of differentiated instruction? Consider the following passages: Matthew 28:19-20 and 1 Cor. 9:19-23.
3.Read Luke 15. How do you believe this passage relates to dealing with students with emotional and behavioral disabilities?
4.NILD offers intervention ideas for students with learning disabilities. What do you see as the strengths and weaknesses of this program? If you have any experience with NILD or similar programs, please feel free to share these experiences with the class.
5.Share ideas for differentiating instruction in language arts. Why do you believe learning in this area of study is so important for students with learning disabilities? Discuss any other ideas or concerns that you have regarding this topic.
6.Share ideas for differentiating instruction in math. Why do you believe learning in this area of study is so important for students with learning disabilities? Discuss any other ideas or concerns that you have regarding this topic.
