Child Trafficking in India
to develop skills is analysis, research, synthesis of sources, and argument. This essay will be divided into 2 parts. The first part of the essay will be an objective analysis of a topic. The second part of the essay will be subjective statement of your position using evidence. Through the use of inquiry, research, and evaluation you will explore all sides of a current topic. A well-written paper will synthesize research and develop a critical analysis of the issue. For this essay, try to choose a topic related to your desired major, larger community or something that you have always wanted to know more about. Please avoid the following research topics: abortion, the death penalty, lowering the drinking age, legalizing currently illegal drugs, euthanasia, cloning, and violence on television / in video games. My reasoning for this is two fold; I think you will gain more knowledge if you think outside the box, and papers about these topics are a “dime a dozen”. The subject matter is very easy to plagiarize and very boring to read. These topics are easy to find emotionally charged arguments about, and I would like to see a little more serious research. Instead of taking the standard argument approach, find an issue that speaks to you personally or something that inspires your creativity and originality.
Part I
First you will generate a topic and try to make sure it is mildly controversial. I do not simply want to you analyze a topic of study. You will have to create some kind of argument. Utilize research to objectively explain all sides. In this section, DO NOT USE FIRST PERSON. If you want to think of this in a more concrete way, think of the topic as the section of the newspaper or a news website in which you might find this argument.
Example:
Topic——–Sports
More Specific Current Topic of Interest—–How might new NCAA regulations on Division I scholarships positively or negatively impact student athletes?
Topic—-Health
More Specific Current Topic of Interest— How have new health care laws affected access to health care for lower income American? How might this impact Americans?
Part II
Evaluate the research you have gathered and create a subjective argument for your specific topic of interest. Your argument must clearly support one side over the other(s). Take a position on the issue and defend it. YOU MAY USE FIRST PERSON.
