I 64 yo married female, high school-level education
I Over 30-year reported history of seizure disorder
I Longstanding treatment for anxiety disorder and panic attacks
I Over past 6 months, has reported panic attacks at night,
impacting sleep and causing confusion (disorientation during
Waking hours).
I Recent reporting of “formication” – sensation of objects
creeping under the skin. Pt. reports fear of bug’ under skin and
rats in stomach.
I History of sexual abuse during childhood.
Questions:
1. Is pt. psychotic, or suffering from severe anxiety and/ or
trauma?
2. What is nature and extent of pt’s level of compromise in
reality testing or logical thinking and how do they interact
her personality characteristics?
3. What role might early sexual abuse / trauma have played in
i ‘ yielding these test results?
4. What treatment recommendations do you have? Is this pt. a
good candidate for insight-oriented psychotherapy?

Case#3: . . ‘ I
I 20 yo single male, undergraduate university student
I On probation at college for “poor academic performance, low-
s level motivation and apparent confusion, drifting and/ or
depressed mood.” ‘ i I
I Pt. reports intermittent suicidal ideation, feelings of alienation
from family and very few close relationships: “I have friends
but I’m close with no one.” 1
I Pt. reports putting a great deal of energy and interest into
stamp collecfing, human anatomy research and foreign
language acquisition, calling these “my hobbies or my
obsessions you decide, Doc.”

1. How depressed is this man? How central or marginal is
depression / mood disorder to understanding this case
diagnostically?
2. Does ptfhave OCD? Schizoidal tendencies? Schizophrenia?
Comment with specific examples from the testing.
3. Might this pt. be an individual on the autism spectrum?
Asperger’s? What clues -are there from the test data to‘
understand his interpersonal functioning more fully?
4. Construct a treatment plan for this pt., including
psychotherapeutic, educational and other relevant issues.
