Assessment Component 2: Case Study
From your workplace experience (Care home elderly) select a situation in which you have been a participant or an observer that involves leadership and/or management skills. 2500 words (+10%), maximum word count 2750 words.
Within the case study the following should be addressed:
1. Introduction. (Approximately 150 words)
o Introduce your chosen situation and provide some background information on the workplace area.
The workplace area must not be named and anonymity must be ensured for any staff or clients.
(10 marks)
2. Assessment (Approximately 1150 words)
Describe the situation by providing a clear and concise account of what took place.
The following questions should be addressed
o What was the problem?
o What were the problem(s) and/or issue(s)?
o What were the influencing factors – why did the problem(s)/issue(s) arise?
o Critically analyse the particular management/leadership issues, skills, with reference to underpinning theory and supporting evidence from credible reference sources. (40 marks)

Following the assessment stage complete the case study by identifying possible alternative courses of action and solutions using the following systematic stages.

3. Planning (Approximately 250 words)
Write clear goal statements that take account of the following:
o What could have been done to resolve the problem(s)/issue(s)?
o What is the desired outcome? (10 marks)

4. Implementation (Actions) (Approximately 500 words)
o How would the goals identified in the planning stage be implemented?
o What specific actions could /would be taken to achieve the goals?
o What resources may be required to implement the goals? (Who, what, when, where and how?) (20 marks)
o Discussion should include reference to underpinning theory and supporting evidence.

5. Evaluation (Approximately 500 words)
o How will success of the suggested interventions be evaluated?
o Discuss the evaluation strategy and methods that would be used.
o Discussion should include reference to underpinning theory and supporting evidence. (20 marks)
