1967 is the year for Sgt. Pepper.
Before this the Beatles had recorded:

Help!: 1965
Rubber Soul: 1965
Revolver: 1966
1. Select one song from each of the above mentioned albums and discuss. Please talk about who wrote the song, the lyrics, the instrumentation (if there is something unique or different about the song and the audience’s reaction to the songs. You can find a complete list on itunes of the various songs.

2. Please watch this documentary on the making of the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Album. This is an excellent documentary that takes you through the creation of one of rock’s greatest albums of all time. (See question #3 for follow-up on video). Think about these questions and respond to a few: After watching the documentary explain how and why the Sgt. Pepper album was so important for rock? Discuss the various songs. Discuss the musical arrangements, orchestration and the process for creating this extraordinary record. Discuss the album cover and the way the music was packaged. What was unique about this project? How did the project change from the early conception to the final product?

3. Select 2-3 Songs from the Sgt. Pepper Album and listen. Please use information to support your findings about the various songs from and article of your choice on the Beatles from “Rolling Stone Magazine” available on-line through OSU Library (E-Journals). Make sure to include the article that you use in your post.
