Create a reference guide entitled Hospitality Manager’s Legal Handbook.

Each week you will create a section of a reference guide for managing legal issues in a hypothetical hospitality organization. The emphasis in the guide will be on taking preventative measures to avoid litigation. The handbook will include step-by-step action plans on relevant topics such as selecting a hospitality attorney, choosing a form of business organization, developing a strategy for obtaining a liquor license, legally evicting a guest, and planning for a crisis. Each week you will be given assignments to add to your final guide. You are also required to review and comment on the Legal Handbook submissions of at least two other students and post your views in this Discussion Area.

Part 5: Create a Forms Database

This week you will create a forms database for your Manager’s Legal Handbook. Select a minimum of five forms you believe are essential to the employment process. After you identify the forms you are interested in, research on the Internet and download a blank sample of each form. Include the samples in your handbook and then for each form write a short report that addresses the following:
•What is the name of the form?
•What is the agency or organization you downloaded it from? Be sure to include the URL.
•What is the purpose of the form?
•To what stage of the employment process does the form pertain?
•What recommendations do you have for managers who will be filling out the form?
•How and where will you store these forms and who will have access to them? How will employee privacy rights be protected?

One form you will likely want to include is the I-9 form which we have previously discussed in the online lectures this week. The other forms you include are entirely up to you and can relate to any stage of the employment process or legal issue. Keep in mind, you are providing these forms as an aid to other managers who might not know anything about the forms.

By the end of the week, you should review and comment on the handbooks of at least two other students by posting your views in this Discussion Area.

Caution: Be sure to properly document the source of the forms you download. Some forms may be proprietary, meaning they were written by and belong to another author. This is important for purposes of copyright law and to protect you against committing plagiarism. No assignment will be accepted unless you have properly documented your sources.
