This assessment requires you to create a statement outlining your philosophy of teaching the Arts, as a means of helping you unpack your knowledge of, and attitude towards, Arts education. You are also required to reflect on your confidence to teach the Arts or to teach using the Arts as a pedagogical tool.
Assessment details
Your philosophy statement should address the following questions:
1. What is ‘Arts education’ and in what ways do the Arts benefit student learning and development?
2. Is Arts education important to you? In other words, will you include the Arts in your teaching practice? Why/why not?
3. How confident do you feel teaching the Arts? Explain your response.
Aim to write 500 words in response to each question. You will need to draw on others’ works to provide depth and breadth to your responses, particularly question one. When integrating the ideas/words of others you must ensure that you cite them correctly, according to APA referencing conventions. Any work that is not original and has not been cited correctly will be deemed to have not met the requirements of the task.
