Application Paper on Race & Ethnicity: After experiencing the “Justice Banquet” and after completing the volunteer experience at the Point In Time Count, students will

write a paper analyzing their experience and critically re-examining their meaning of social justice.

In your paper, you should adequately address the following questions:

“The history of the unequal distribution of wealth in the U.S. is a history of racism. It is impossible to separate the two—race was constructed of the economic gain

of white people at the expense of people of color.” –Elspeth Gilmore (2012), Why Resource Generation is Committed to Racial Justice

1.    How did your experience at the soup kitchen confirm or dis-prove the assumption in Gilmore’s statement above?  Did your experience at the Point In Time Count

provide evidence that communities of color have been barred from accumulating wealth and power?   If your response is yes, what is your evidence?  If your response was

no, what evidence would you need to “convince” you?
2.    After your participation at the Point In Time Count, has your definition of social justice changed? If so, how has it changed and why? If not, why hasn’t your

definition changed? How did the experience of volunteering for the Point In Time Count influence your change (or not) in your definition of social justice.
