My plan for my final project is to lower teen pregnancy drop out rates in New York by trying to implement maternity leave in high school. If new mothers had three – six months with their baby, it may reduce stress. Adding, We can reduce the percent of teenage mothers getting postpartum depression. Five out of the nine factors that put a new mother at a higher risk of PPD are likely applicable to teen moms. High risk factors for PPD include:(1) being under the age of twenty, (2) not planning the pregnancy, (3) having a poor relationship or no relationship with the father, (4) lack of financial stability, and (5) having little support from family and friend’s.”
My thesis statement: 3 out 10 Girl become pregnant before the age of 20. The United States has the highest rates of teen pregnancy and teen births, and abortion in the fully industrialized world. Most young girls who had or have unprotected sex do not have the awareness of what can happen or what happens after birth. Often these young girls will drop out of school because of the stress they experience. If we mandate High Schools to implement Maternity Leave Drop rate will lower because teen moms will continue their education.
