Main Task: Analyzing Department Human Resource Management
This week we have touched upon skills that are needed to be an effective leader of an athletic department. We have gone into reviewing the importance of organizational communication and the importance of being able to communicate directly with staff and coaches. Well-developed communication skills are essential to personal effectiveness in organizational leadership positions. You have seen organizations fail because of poor communication and human relations skills from the top.
For this week?s assignment you are to conduct a detailed analysis of your school?s athletic department, focusing on human resource management. Prepare to share your analysis with your athletic staff, in a PowerPoint Slides presentation, that includes at least five resources documented on a separate references slide, to generate discussion on improving or maintaining the quality of human resource management in your department.
Are the department?s mission, vision, values, and goals reflected in current or future strategies pertaining to personnel recruitment, retention, and management?Does the department have a policies and procedures manual that speaks of human resource management? If not, does the university have a policies andprocedures manual concerning this vital component?After you have found these manuals or policies, discuss whether or not these policies have been effective for human resources from the perspective of athletic administration. If they have not been successful, discuss strategies for strengthening human resource management or ways that you and your staff could be involved in the improvement process. If they have been successful, analyze why that is the case.Note: If you are not presently an athletic administrator, you may take any athletic program and evaluate it.
