To what extent does a person’s upbringing determine his choices? Explain how both Luis’s mother and father contributed to the person he became, not only in his gang life, but also in how he later had the sense to escape the gang. You could use two examples (one each) of how they influenced him negatively, and two examples of how their long term influence may also have had positive effects. You may also use other organizational methods; this is only a suggestion. Not only that, you may also argue that while his parents had some influence, other forces were more significant, but whatever choice you make, do not totally discount or ignore his parents’ influence.
