Aileen Wuoronos
When psychologists examine incidence rates of physical aggression, they have determined that men are eight times more likely than women to display physical aggression. Your group has prepared three motivational models on male killers this semester, so it is now time to look at similar behaviors perpetrated by the opposite gender. Aileen Wuornos, a Florida prostitute turned serial killer, was the focus of the 2003 Oscar winning movie “Monster”, starring Charlize Theron and Crtina Ricci. Will the motivational model, which was exclusively based on interviews with male killers, still apply to females as well ?
Do we still these stage 1 and stage 2 precursors to her adult misdeeds ? Is there a feedback loop which allows to continue her killings uninterrupted ?
Again, we will also add to the five stage model by using a sixth stage which requires you to classify Wuornos as an organized/disorganized killer.
Additionally, we will add a seventh stage, where you will decide whether or not it is appropriate to use the motivational model to classify female offenders, or whether the motivational model should only be used with male offenders. I would envision that this section will be two to three pages long,. This section is designed to allow you to think about all the profiles you have done this semester, the similarity of the underlying offenders, and whether or not Aileen shows those same similarities which have popped up time and time again in our efforts to understand what motivates people to commit such clearly horrific crimes.
The motivational model paper of Eileen Wuornos will be due on April 27th. You can review the film “Monster” as part of your search for evidence relating to this case (just remember about the concept of “dramatic liscence”).
