Research is an important way to gather information beyond our personal experiences and therefore has value for people in any field. The results of research are not always presented in written form, but the process of researching is nonetheless valuable—even if we only use the information personally.

For this project, write a brief essay (600-800 words) that reports the results of your research on an extremely narrow topic related to your professional work. Consider these topics (or define one of your own, with my approval):

• A company, industry, or corporation where you would like to work

• A city where you would like to work

• A graduate school where you would like to continue your professional education

• A professional organization in your field

• A important person associated with your field

Your research must include at least three sources, one of which can be an interview

• Follow MLA guidelines for manuscript form (see Beacon 550-52).

• Save your assignment as a Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx).

• Submit the assignment to the appropriate Blackboard dropbox.

• The essay will be evaluated on (1) the appropriateness of your thesis statement, (2) the appropriateness of your support information, (3) the organization of your material, (4) the accuracy of your internal documentation, (5) the smoothness with which you incorporate information, (6) the accuracy of your works-cited (or reference) page, and (7) overall technical matters.
