In this week�s reading, Chapter 6: Applied Internet Linguistics, the author notes, �The problems that face anyone trying to carry out online searching can be summed up in three words: irrelevance, incoherence, and inaccuracy.� (p. 98). The author continues to note that �Online searching at present is often non-sense, because the failures �the searches which do not give us what we want�frequently exceed the successes.� (p. 106).

Read Chapter 6 carefully and engage in the following experiments:
a.Go to two different search engines (for example, Bing, Google, Yahoo, etc.) and search for a word with multiple meanings, for example, �charge�, as highlighted in the text. In the first part of the paper, describe a minimum of 6 of the top website results from each search engine and the extent to which they matched the meaning you had in mind.
b.Next, search for the same word using the author�s approach of using the word in a sentence context. Briefly describe how the findings/website results (top 6) retrieved on the first page changed. ?Now, search for the word using the collocation approach that was discussed in the text. c.Now, go to at least one different site link using each search engine that has advertisements. In the second part of the paper, discuss whether the advertisements align with the website topic. For example, did a sports page have sports related products advertised or not? Note: Depending on your search results, remember to distinguish between site and page. An ad may be appropriate on a site, but not on a page and vice versa.
d.In the fourth, concluding part of the paper, highlight the advantages and disadvantages of using the semantic versus the lexical approach in relation to advertisement placement on websites.

The paper must be three to five double-spaced pages in length, excluding the title page and references, and formatted according to APA style.
