(Spirituality and the Sacred Quest is keystone providing depth of character in screenwriting across all media genres. The module provides an opportunity to explore a variety of religious and theoretical approaches to understanding ideas of the sacred and the spiritual quest present in movies, novels, television drama, comedy, music, computer games etc. <br />
It explores how such narratives explore the spiritual quest through topics such as: what it is to be human/not human; ‘being’ – the life/death/re-birth paradigm; ‘no greater love’ – agape and the erotic; the Guru and the Buddha – guides for the ‘path’; sacred space and sacred time; spirituality and the transcendent.)<br />

The assignment offers an opportunity for a close examination of an aspect of the sacred or the spiritual of your choice through a screen text.<br />

You are required to produce a 5000 word essay discussing:<br />

How your chosen topic (an aspect of spirituality, the sacred or religious understanding) – is explored through your choice of screentext (music vid, television, documentary film, films, or the work of a particular film-maker etc). <br />
<br />
The essay must demonstrate an informed understanding of your topic in the context of a spiritual, sacred or religious belief. /<br />
<br />
It must demonstrate critial analysis and academic research.<br />
