Employment is a key issue in the lives of many individuals who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Our job is part of how we define ourselves; for many adults, including individuals with disabilities, what we do is who we are (Rifkin, 1995).

1) Write three positive aspects of employment for people who use AAC

1.    Allows individuals who use AAC the opportunity to participate in social interaction and become independentand involved in the community.
2.    Provides financial support which allows individuals to become an active participant and encourages them to involve in a long-term relationship, marriage or raising a family.
3.    The self-esteem of the individuals increases as they feel they have contributed to the society.

2) Write 3 barriers to employment for people who use AAC

1.    Appropriate community supports such as transportation, daily living activities services or personal assistance services are lacking.
2.    People who use AAC face with negative attitudes from the society
3.    Lack of adequate educational preparation
