Read the selection of essays entitled “Millennials Entering Adulthood” in your Writing Arguments book (469-485) and pick one of the essays. These essays view your up-and-coming generation, so-called the Millennials, through the eyes of somewhat older writers. Critically evaluate what the author says based upon your own experience as a Millennial and outside research. Look especially for unfounded generalizations, stereotyping and, perhaps, perspectives that you may find to be unfair or too narrow. If you believe that your author makes an unfair assumption, support your objection with alternate research. Of course, also give credit for author insights that you agree are valid.

Here is a rough sketch formula for writing a critical review:

Identify the author and title of the work in your introduction and summarize the article’s main points.
Analyze the author’s argument. How does he/she construct the argument? What kind of support is provided? What kind of criteria is fair in evaluating the work? For example, an article or op-ed in a popular magazine does not require the same level of detailed support that an academic article would. Still, it should be fair and carefully reasoned.
Based on your criteria, how does the article hold up? What strengths and weaknesses do you find in the author’s message? What other information might you need to make a fair assessment?
Consider any counterarguments to what the author has said. Assess those as well.
Summarize your conclusions.
Your main source, of course, is the article you are reviewing. You should also have a few more sources to validate any criticisms you level. Document with MLA.
