Humanities Justification on Debate
That the KHRP ( NGO ) gives effective aid for most of the following areas: reducing poverty and expanding the human opportunity index for individuals, affecting urbanization, the development gap, and in raising countries out of poverty. one side of the debate discussed the positive aspects and the other side discussed the negative.
Affirmative Team
1. should define the following terms in their first two speeches:
a. effective aid
b. the five areas identified in the debate resolution (what does ‘positively affecting urbanization’ mean?)
c. order their speeches so that their 2 strongest areas (those points which have the most evidence to help convince the judges are given first – strongest argument to weakest argument; also prepare to give the strongest evidence first in each speech) are given in speeches 1 – 3 of the debate
Negative Team
1. should be prepared to accept the terms defined by the affirmative
2. should think about what is their strongest area for debate (not already mentioned in speeches 1 and 2) in speeches and give this speech in the Negative 3 speech.
How the Judges Should Decide the Winning Side
? using/connecting multiple pieces of evidence to prove all arguments over other team
? the aff really has to prove at least 3 areas are ‘effectively aided’ and if it does (that the negative does not cast enough doubt on their argumentation) you should vote affirmative
? if both sides say nothing vote negative as the affirmative has the burden of proof
? also vote negative if the affirmative fails to prove at least three areas are effective (if it only proves 1 or 2 areas by the way the resolution is worded, the affirmative should lose the debate)
? the more effective side will use sources, evidence, and catch faulty logic against a team to win so look for that
? effective clash – look for the better team debating to more often connect their own arguments/evidence/rebuttals to things that the other side has said and explain how their evidence overturns their opponents
? be sure to take good notes so that you have ‘evidence’ to cite in your justification of who won.
? if the aff argues one way but the negative argues another and there is no clash – vote affirmative as the negative has the burden of rejoinder.
