•   You are working with a group of pregnant teens in a community setting. The teens suggest that a blog (or another social networking tool of your choice) would be useful in communicating pregnancy related information and providing support for group members. How would you respond to this suggestion? What factors do you need to consider in making a decision regarding whether or not to use this social networking tool to meet the needs of this population group?
Note: You may alter the population group so that it is more consistent with that of your workplace, if you so desire.
•   You are a member of a hiring committee for a high profile position within your organization. In searching the Internet (e.g., YouTube; Facebook) for something else, you inadvertently retrieve some information that portrays the first choice candidate in what you consider to be an extremely negative manner. What factors do you need to consider in deciding how to proceed? What action will you take?
•   One of your goals as nurse manager is to facilitate evidence-based practice by increasing nurses’ access to available electronic resources. In your annual budget submission you requested several thousand dollars for ergonomically correct workstations. You have been invited to provide additional information regarding the potential costs and benefits of your request. Present your case for this budget request.
Note: Alternatively, you may choose to focus on the introduction of PDAs (personal digital assistant) on your unit using the outlined scenario described above.
•   You have been selected to participate in the development of a presentation to second year nursing students at the local university related to Trends and Issues in Nursing Informatics in your work environment. The presentation will highlight 6 key issues and you have been asked to choose one topic of interest to present from the following choices. This assignment is written the same as the other options. It is not to be completed in a presentation format such as a power point presentation.
1.   Laws, rules and regulations that govern technology and its use in healthcare
2.   Challenges that encourage as well as hinder the use of information technology

Substantive content (70% of assignment grade)
•   The concerns to be addressed are clearly identified.
•   The relative merits (e.g., strengths, limitations, costs, benefits, as appropriate) of various courses of action are explored.
•   An action plan, including three or four priority actions and rationale for their selection, is developed to address the concerns identified.
Scholarly presentation of ideas (30% of assignment grade)
•   Critical analysis and synthesis of ideas is evident throughout the paper.
•   Paper draws on sources beyond the course textbooks (e.g., online journal databases and Internet resources).
•   Format follows APA (6th ed.) scholarly format and is a maximum of 5 pages (excluding title and reference pages and appendices).
