TASK

This assignment is a 10 minute presentation designed to assess your ability to communicate an original, empirical study to an academic audience. In groups of 3-4, you will select an academic journal article which summarises the process and findings of a recent and original empirical investigation. The chosen article will have been published within the last five years in an academic, peer-reviewed journal and will broadly relate to media and communications. Since our focus in this course is on interview and survey methods, it would be strange to select a study employing neither of these methodologies (as a side note: many empirical studies employ more than one method; that is fine as long as one of those methods is interviews/surveys). You will create an engaging presentation which covers the key points in the particular study. Much like your individual research projects, you will identify the research question and the chosen method(s), the process of data collection and the analysis of findings. Findings should be presented in a manner which situates the study within the broader debates in the field. This is a group assignment and you will be assessed as a group.

An important part of this assignment is to demonstrate your ability to translate published research into a clear, brief and well-articulated presentation. You will not only be assessed on the content but also on your presentation skills.
