Leadership Research Project Leadership Research Project
Leadership Project (150 points): Each student will select a Fortune 500 company, and conduct a leadership case study of that company. I like to encourage students to design their own research studies, thus I am leaving many of the project variables wide open.
Begin by choosing any Fortune 500 company. Do some background research on the company and get a feel for how they manage their stakeholders (remember stakeholders are any individuals who have a stake in the company – so everyone from shareholders to employees, to the public). Then decide what facet of the company you would like to analyze and in regards to what aspect of leadership. You can analyze the company as a whole, you can analyze one particular event, or you can analyze a specific individual (CEO, CFO, etc.) or group of individuals (management teams, boards, etc.). Furthermore, you can apply the concept of leadership as a whole to the study, you can select specific leadership theories (trait theory, behavioral theory, situational theory, etc.), you can select specific leadership styles (motivation styles, decision-making styles, task versus people orientation, etc.), or select specific leadership challenges (change, conflict, etc.) to apply to the study.
As you can see, the possibilities are endless. The bottom line is, I want you to enjoy doing this research project. So choose a combination of company/leadership aspect that really interests or excites you. This research project must be completely free of errors, both in spelling and grammar. The body of the leadership case study must be a minimum of (15) pages long, double-spaced, in a 12 point font. This minimum page requirement does not include the title sheet or reference list. The title sheet should include your name, the due date, and the title of your report. You are required to reference and properly cite (APA) the textbook and at least (4) other research sources.
The Leadership Project will be graded based on the rubric below. Points will be allocated as follows:
Title Page – 5 / 5
Introduction – 25 / 25
Analysis – 50 / 50
Application – 50 / 50
Organization & Mechanics – 10 / 10
Documented Research – 10 / 10
