Homework 6: More Hashing
Open notepad and type a few sentences. Save the file. Run it through hash calc. What is the hash value?
Now without opening the file, rename it. Run it through hashcalc. Is the hash value the same? What is it?
Now open the file and put a space immidiately after the last character in your sentence. What is the hash
Homework 7: Very Basic encryption
http://www.binaryhexconverter.com/ascii-text-to-binary-converter
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:ASCII-Table.svg
Create a 12 character message and use the links above to convert your message to binary. Our key is datasecurity. Send me the cipher text you get after xor-ing the converted message with the key. For simplicity do not use spaces and keep the key and the message the same length (12 characters). I would prefer you used the ascii chart and not the automatic converter but really its up to you.
Example:
Key = datasecurity
message = ilikeinfosec
binary of the key = 01100100 01100001 01110100 01100001 01110011 01100101 01100011 01110101 01110010 01101001 01110100 01111001
binary of message = 01101001 01101100 01101001 01101011 01100101 01101001 01101110 01100110 01101111 01110011 01100101 01100011
XOR (cipher) 00001101 00001101 00011101 …………………………………….
To get the message from the cipher, you XOR the cipher with the key. This will give you the plaintext message. Show me your work.
Homework 9, 10, 11
I will upload a PDF file for this questions under the name Armindo-Forensic
In the Forensics Camp lab book, complete the following labs:
1. Data hiding/steganography Parts 1 and 2 – please complete the command line lab. Email me the picture file with the two combined images and also a screen shot of the combined image viewed in a hex editor of your choice. Any will do and there are many on the internet.
2. The Exif Data lab – Send me a screen shot of 2 different images in Opanda IExif along with the GPS coordinates and the google maps view.
3. Disk Imaging and File Recovery – Complete the FTK Imager lab. You will need a usb flash drive.
• Homework 12 : nmap
Go to https://nmap.org/download.html and download your version of nmap. There is a windows .exe file under the heading that says “Microsoft Windows Binaries” The MAc OS version is directly above the windows version.
This will download the command line tool as well as Zenmap.
You will have to run either program in administrator mode.
This assignment is best done at home as I cannot guarantee good results at school due to the security controls in place.
Watch the following videos:
Answer the following questions:
1. What devices did you find? (IP addresses)
2. What were the Operating systems for each host?
3. Were there any devices on your network that you were surprised to see? What do you think these devices are?
