Tejano South Texas review 20% This mainly covers Daniel D. Arreola’s book Tejano South Texas. Answer the following questions in a five to six page paper. Do not repeat these questions, use them to outline and organize your paper.

1. Introduce the paper by defining major characteristics of South Texas, especially the Rio Grande Valley. This will draw from the entire book. (one page)

2. Transition from an overview of the larger region to a discussion of one city or town that the book covers in detail. Is there a central church? Any religious events? Any other festivals or events? Food Preparation? Spatial layout – Plazas? Divides between rich and poor areas? Using the book and at least one additional primary source (this may include archival images, maps, newspaper or magazine articles, early books), describe the history, culture, or spatial layout of the city. This will be the largest part of the paper (two to three pages)

3. Compare Tejano South Texas with the Handbook of Texas article on this community. Go to Handbook of Texas Online and search Rio Grande Valley. In what ways does this article agree or disagree with Arreola’s study? (one page).

4. Conclude the paper with a discussion of how this community’s history relates to larger patterns in Mexican American history. Be sure to cite Crucible of Struggle (one page).
