You need to write a policy brief, the topic has to relevant to REDD+ area.

The topic has to clear focus:
This means that the policy brief should not tackle a very broad question but a specific issue or question
Think carefully then about the title this should provide a message to the reader not just be descriptive
Think also about the structure the sub-headings themselves can deliver your key messages

What is a policy brief?
A clearly written, short document designed to get important messages across to busy people
Target audience: policy-makers (civil servants, politicians, development partners (donor agencies), international organisations) and practitioners (e.g. people working in NGOs and project staff)
Needs to grab attention

Structure
Can have an executive summary of a few lines but not essential
Key messages (or policy pointers) are essential could have 4 2 messages on the problem and 2 on recommendations
Then, one, or a few, sub-sections on the issues, with sub-headings setting out the issues clearly, e.g. Gender and CBNRM: cultural norms and attitudes, CBNRM system, lack of power and resources
Then, one or more sections on what should be done
Short list of recommendations that clearly follows on from previous dont introduce new points can make these up but can also draw on other sources (but dont copy word for word!)

Style
Dont write in an academic style get to the point quickly; be direct; avoid long sentences
But, do draw on evidence and show your sources include references
Draw on multiple sources of evidence, not just one
Try to make the layout attractive

Marking Criteria
Is there a clear focus to the policy brief and is this apparent throughout the brief?
Are key messages identified at the beginning of the policy brief and do they clearly come out of the policy brief?
Does the policy brief have a clear structure and flow that develops and gets across the key messages?
Does the policy brief draw on a range of robust evidence and is the evidence presented and reviewed in a critical way?
Are examples included that illustrate key points and help get the messages across?
Do the conclusions clearly flow from the arguments made, and the evidence presented, in the policy brief?
Is a convincing list of references included? (It shouldnt be a long list though perhaps 6 8)
Does the layout and use of illustrations support the policy brief in getting across key messages?
Is the writing style appropriate for a policy brief, i.e. getting straight to the point; clear, concise sentences, etc.?

key developments in international advertising regulation and how these developments have impacted on marketing strategies and consumers (e.g. consumption) across different countries.

The essay can focus on one particular product/service industry as a context or can use a selection of examples across different industries to examine international regulation developments and their impact.
Students must provide an international perspective by discussing the developments in international advertising regulation and its effects across a range of different countries/regions.
